What is Brytr?
Brytr is a free app offering you the best way to create, manage and redeem your sRECs for cash, gift cards and other perks.
How does it work?
Once you create a membership account and sync your clean energy asset, we do the rest of the work, tracking your energy generation and creating one sREC for every megawatt-hour of clean electricity generated. As your sRECs accumulate, you can decide whether to redeem them for cash gift cards.
What is a Solar Renewable Energy Certificate and why should I care?
If you’re not familiar with the concept, a Renewable Energy Certificate is a market-based instrument that allows transfer of the property rights to clean electricity generation. When your solar power system generates a megawatt-hour (MWh) of power, it creates two sources of value: (1) electricity, which you can sell at prevailing market rates, and (2) a Solar Renewable Energy Certificate, or sREC; this is a federal certificate saying that your system generated one MWh of electricity from clean sources, which you can also sell.
Since we can’t really buy green electricity directly in many cases (once electrons are dumped onto the grid, they blend in with electrons from other sources), the sREC represents the “greenness” of clean energy; some think of it as the mirror image of a carbon tax—rather than putting a negative value on carbon emissions, it puts a positive value on clean energy generation. A sREC gives you, the owner, a certificate of property rights over one unit of greenness. So sRECs are a kind of currency. Importantly, only the party that “retires” the REC—i.e., takes it out of circulation—can claim the environmental benefits.
How many sRECs can I expect to produce in a given year?
The average U.S. household with a solar asset may produce 7-10 sRECs a year. What you earn or receive in exchange for a sREC will depend on prevailing market conditions and the Brytr reward programs in which you participate.
Who is the team behind Brytr?
Brytr is a cleantech startup being incubated by CarbonEnfo, a wholly owned division of Atlanta-based Empower Energy Technology, an expert in solar power installation and related energy data solutions.
You’re not charging homeowners to join. How does Brytr make money?
We take a 20% commission on trades executed on behalf of the homeowner. Say a company buys your sREC to help meet its Net Zero goals. If they pay $10 for a sREC, you net $8 after our commission. As you track your rewards balance, note that we are displaying your actual net rewards, after the commission is deducted.

How do I sign up for a Brytr membership?

Is there a fee to join?
There’s no fee to join, and no hidden fees, promise.
Can I cancel at any time?
Yes. At Brytr, you’re in control. We hope you enjoy your membership and please let us know what we can do to make it better.
Why have I been invited to join Brytr by my solar installation company?
During our pre-launch mode, we are working with a select number of installers to give their customers early access to the Brytr platform. You are under no obligation to participate, though we hope you will! Your participation will help us improve the platform and create a community of like-minded solar asset owners.
Connecting Your Solar Asset
How do I sync my solar power system with the Brytr platform?
Once you’ve created a membership account and joined the Brytr platform, please visit the page titled “Connecting Your System,” which can be found in the “My Energy Assets” section of the website. Follow the prompts to enter your inverter’s information and share your inverter login credentials (username and password) so that we may start tracking your energy generation and creating your validated sRECs.
I have more than one solar power system; can I add all of them?
Of course. On the page titled “My Energy Assets” you’ll see a prompt to add another energy asset. Simply complete the fields and add that asset’s inverter information.

Redemption
How do I redeem my first sRECs?
Once you’ve connected your energy system to the Brytr platform, you will begin seeing an ongoing log of how many sRECs you are generating. This log updates on a daily basis (note that you earn rewards as you generate whole sRECs, not fractions of sRECs). Using the “Redeem Now” widget on our platform, you’ll be able to redeem your solar credits for cash gift cards, but you need to have at least $5 in your account to start the redemption process. We currently allow you to do one redemption in a 24-hour period, and it cannot exceed $100.
What are the major types of redemption you offer?
At this writing, the Brytr platform offers an online rewards catalog where you can exchange your sRECs for cash gift cards; selecting “Redeem Now” will take you to this catalog, where you’ll find dozens of popular brands to choose from.

What will you do with my information?
We adhere to strict privacy policies and will not sell your information to third parties. We will, however, use it to enhance the services we provide. You can read about our privacy policy here.
Is the platform secure?
Yes, all transactions are encrypted and anonymized to protect your personal information and asset data.
